Maria Sharapova Plays Krajicek Tonight In Indian Wells
03.09.07 INDIAN WELLS-- Maria Sharapova of Russia this week defends her Pacific Life Open singles title against a weakened field missing both Australian Open champion Serena Williams of the USA and her sister Venus Williams. After getting a first round bye, she opens tonight against Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands not before 7:00pm PST USA on the Stadium Court. Head to head Maria leads Krajicek 1-0, last winning last year at the US Open 6-3, 6-0. This is also Maria's first tournament back since being sidelined for more than four weeks with a hamstring injury which forced her to retire from her last match in Tokyo.

02.27.07 DUBAI-- Maria Sharapova withdrew last week from the Dubai Tennis Championships with her lingering hamstring injury. Maria is next scheduled to play the week of March 5th in Indian Wells, California at the Pacific Life Open.

Maria Sharapova Retires Injured In Tokyo Semifinals
02.03.07 TOKYO -- Saturday in the semifinals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open, Maria Sharapova was forced to retire with a hamstring injury to lose to Ana Invanovic 6-1, 0-1 retired. "It's disappointing to have to finish this way," Sharapova said. "I started to feel pain in the second game of the first set. I tried to go on, but you can't get away with it when you are playing against a top player." "I didn't have pain like this during the Australian Open," added Sharapova. "This is like a sudden, sharper pain I felt when I landed on the serve." The injury should not be too serious, and Maria should be ready to play again by her next tournament February 19th in Dubai.

Maria Sharapova Reaches Tokyo Semifinals
02.02.07 TOKYO -- Friday in the quarterfinals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open, Maria Sharapova defeated Ai Sugiyama of Japan 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Maria plays fifth seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in Saturday's semifinals. Head to head Maria leads Ivanovic 1-0, winning their only meeting in Linz last year 7-6(7-3), 7-5. Thursday in the second round, Maria defeated Francesca Schiavone of Italy 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
